How to stop drinking at home?

Avoid alcohol

According to the latest figures, half a million people die in alcoholism each year in a country, far more than natural disasters and epidemics. These shocking statistics indicate the need for early action. Many are aware of this, but only 1. 7% of people with alcoholism see a doctor. Others do not want to be treated in specialized centers or try to stop drinking at home.

Methods of getting rid of alcohol addiction

Special medications, folk recipes, self-education, and other techniques are used to treat alcoholism at home. The main thing in making a choice is to use only methods that are characterized by minimal risk.

Taking medications and folk remedies for the following purposes:

  • cleansing the body of toxic substances;
  • eliminate the main symptoms of alcohol withdrawal (headache, nausea, tremor, etc. );
  • prevent relapse.

Folk remedies

There are many recipes in the arsenal of traditional medicine to help you stop drinking at home. They help cleanse toxins, attract alcohol and strengthen the immune system.

The following tools are commonly used:

  • St. John's wort decoction. Pour dry heat (4 handfuls) with 1 liter of boiling water and keep in a water bath for half an hour. Twice a day for two weeks;
  • Marigold broth with oats. Pour 2 liters of water into a container and pour the unrefined oat grains into one-third of the dishes and then simmer on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes. Marigold flowers (100 grams) are added to the filtered soup. The container is then well insulated and left to stand for 11-12 hours. Drink the resulting drink once a day with 250 ml before meals;
  • bear leaf. Pour the leaves (40 grams) with water (1 cup) and cook for 15 minutes. Take 20 ml 6 times a day;
  • herbal infusion. Mix equal doses of dried herbs (chamomile or worm, thyme and centaur), pour boiling water and leave for 3 hours. The filtered infusion is taken with 40 ml three times a day.

Traditional healers may also recommend administering a patient's decoction, followed by vomiting and alcohol attraction:

  • Laurel roots and lavender are crushed and poured with vodka, infused for 14 days,
  • European fissure leaves are poured with boiling water and left in a dark place for 2 weeks. The resulting tincture is mixed with the vodka in equal proportions, given to the patient in the morning and at lunchtime, and poured with pure vodka in the evening.

The above cookings should only be used after consultation with your doctor, as taking certain herbs may be contraindicated. Failure to take them into account can harm the body instead of the benefits.

In order for folk medicines to achieve the desired effect, they need to drink them for a long time (at least 2 months). We also recommend that you cleanse your diseases, drink more water and continue to bathe.

Medication

You should not choose your own medication because you should consult a narcologist. Indicates an appropriate drug, taking into account the unique properties of the body.

In general, those who want to stop drinking can suggest the following:

  • enterosorbents (removal of ethyl alcohol residues and decomposition products from the intestines);
  • diuretics (to cleanse the body);
  • antihypertensive drugs (under elevated pressure);
  • analeptics (for heart pain);
  • sleeping pills (insomnia).

Drugs that inhibit the pleasure of drinking can be used to stop drinking. As a result, there is no relaxation and euphoria, but only negative consequences that gradually weaken the craving for alcohol. A special group of drugs attracts alcohol. Such drugs do not work for long, so they are taken for longer courses. The need for admission is determined by the doctor.

Using Hypnosis

Currently, you can find suggestions for doing a hypnosis session at home on the Internet. This method does not require much time (5-10 minutes a day is enough) and money costs. The dependent must not know about it. The disadvantage of this method is that it takes a very long time to influence the psyche (several months and in some cases even a year). In order to save time and prevent negative effects, it is better to prefer medical care than an amateur approach.

There are usually some rules to follow when home hypnosis:

  • the session is performed in the deep sleep phase (during this time the body rests, the brain remains active and sensitive to signals);
  • when the patient falls asleep, stand near the head of the bed and repeat the prepared sentences to stop drinking in a sound with appropriate intonations;
  • the text should include a statement about the refusal of alcohol in an affirmative form (for example, "alcohol is disgusted");
  • you cannot use the “no” particle as it will be the opposite result (human consciousness does not perceive the negative particle);
  • you should not take the incentive form ("give up alcohol"), you should replace it by confirming the result ("give up alcohol easily");
  • Believe the result.

Disadvantages of Home Therapy

It's hard to quit drinking at home, and it's important to follow a number of rules.

  • The effect of measures is possible if the disease is at an early stage. In the advanced stages, physical and mental disorders are observed that only one professional can cope with.
  • The patient should get rid of the bad habit himself. By force, one will not be able to quit drinking. In this case, only a temporary effect is possible.
  • There is a need to create the most comfortable conditions to protect the patient from stressful situations that often provoke failure and to provide support.
  • You should stop drinking alcohol completely.

Nevertheless, the fight against alcohol at home rarely ends with 100% success. This situation is caused by the following reasons:

  • lack of necessary qualifications and experience available to doctors;
  • high risk of breakdown;
  • there is no lasting motivation in an addicted person (the clinic has a better understanding of the dangers of alcohol and the need to end a bad habit);
  • Lacks psychological support (even if the patient’s relatives sincerely try to help her), they can’t instill in her the belief that she will be able to quit drinking. Only a psychotherapist can stimulate such confidence in his self-consciousness.

In addition, they often become alcoholics to withdraw from the surrounding reality and forget about problems. In such cases, the cause of the alcohol dependence should be determined and the one that is only available to the professional should be eliminated.

Because you have to stop drinking suddenly, another problem with home treatment is that you can’t give full help with alcohol. These negative consequences are:

  • hypertension;
  • arrhythmia;
  • heart failure;
  • gastrointestinal dysfunction;
  • delirium tremens (in severely advanced cases).

In such cases, the practitioner will prescribe detoxification therapy.

It's not worth risking a loved one's health. Stopping drinking means going to a special clinic where the patient needs to be provided with qualified medical care.
